Senior Accountant

 

Summary

Under general supervision, applies knowledge of the company's business systems, business processes and controls, including policies and procedures, relative to the location and department assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of organizational structure and core business.
  • Prepares and posts journal vouchers for complex accounting transactions.
  • Reviews and monitors financial transactions for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Researches and resolves complex accounting issues and transactions including related internal controls.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes financial results including variance explanations on schedule determined by accounting manager.
  • Prepares account reconciliations and works with stakeholders to resolve aging items.
  • Monthly forecasting including production volume, expense, MFG variances, production margin, rebate, inventory, etc. and submission of forecasts in Hyperion. 
  • Annual business plan including volume, gross expense and resource requirements by month ensuring updates align with plan guidance and assumptions are understood.
  • Create standard costs for new products or previously inactive products between quarterly cost rolls.
  • Calculate labor and material application rates for quarterly cost rolls.  Create PPx update files and coordinate cost roll activities with procurement and operations to ensure completion of data updates within specified deadlines.  Analyze cost roll updates and correct any errors detected.
  • Month end close (reviewing cost centers and profit centers).
  • Hold weekly financial reviews with Plant Managers and Business Unit Managers. 
  • Submit annual physical inventory schedules (capital and leased assets) and coordinate effort for the MFG group.
  • Monitor inventory cycle count process and ensure that counts are being completed in accordance with company policy.
  • Internal Control responsibilities including SSAT, ICQR, coordination of local internal controls committee, and take the lead on the completion and submission of governmental filings.
  • Manage capital requests and submit WBS elements for capitalization.
  • Learn advanced functionality of common office environment and functional applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP, and Hyperion.
  • Creates standards of work/work methods for all routine tasks performed and updates these items as processes change.
  • Financial advisor/mentor to Plant Managers and Business Unit Managers. 
  • Coach plant managers on and help them to understand internal controls that are in place and how they affect the business.
  • Identify opportunities and implement process improvements.
  • Ad hoc requests as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Requires an undergraduate degree from an accredited university in accounting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in manufacturing cost accounting. Experience in Mining and Oil & Gas accounting preferred.  
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in moderately complex aspects of general accounting, internal controls, company policy, financial analysis and reporting, forecasting, and financial applications, as well as intermediate levels of proficiency with industry and company acumen.  
  • CPA license or CPA eligibility with intended pursuit of license preferred
