Under general autonomy, plans, conducts, and directs selection, processing, and application of ferrous and nonferrous metallic materials, and/or welding materials, processes, and designs for multiple projects of major significance which are highly difficult and complex in nature. Demonstrates ability to conceive of and develop creative/innovative technology critical to the company's success. At this level, individual is either in charge of programs so extensive and complex as to require staff and resources of sizable magnitude or is an individual researcher or consultant who is recognized as a national and/or international authority and leader in an area of materials engineering, welding engineering, or other material science interest and investigation. Devises new approaches to solve problems related to projects, and is a subject matter expert in standard metallic materials and processes as applied to forgings, castings, welding fabricated parts, and other components. Investigates use of alternate materials and/or processes. Provides input on strategic sourcing of metals and/or welding materials. Regarding materials or welding issues, leads internal / external customer needs analysis. Looks for gaps and ways to exceed customer expectations. Incorporates Reliability, HSE, Quality analysis, and Project Management techniques in all job processes. Job role is independently accountable for a large staff or support arm of the organization or a single profit/loss or revenue center, major product line, or support function. Skills are typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Science or similar discipline, and 16 years of related experience. Completion of a Master's or Ph.D in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Science or similar discipline is preferred. Certification as a licensed Professional is also preferred.

 

The following experience is preferred: 

  • Individual researcher recognized as a Metallic Material and Corrosion subject matter authority with a history of driving innovation in Materials Science within the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate intellectual property and/or peer recognized publications.
  • Relevant experience with success in driving activities consisting of direct customer level interaction on complex programs resulting in successful commercial product launches.
  • Ability to develop advanced testing and modeling techniques with the goal of improving predictive models for corrosion mechanisms and their effects on fatigue and other time based mathematical models.
  • Individually motivated to mentor peers and guide the organization in addressing HP-HT and other materials challenges through R&D activities.
